Tutor Profiles
We hope this list will give you an idea of the type of tutors we hire at KlassTutoring.
Please compare our tutors to those of our competitors. Note that not all tutors
are available in all locations or at all times.
Alex
Alex has a B.A. from Yale University, where he acquired
a diversity of experience in Art (his major), Literature, and the Sciences. At Yale,
he was recognized with a number of honors and awards, including the Fry Award for
academic achievement, the Curtis Fellowship, and the Sudler Grant. He is currently
working towards a Master’s degree at Otis College of Art and Design in Los
Angeles. In addition to tutoring, Alex’s teaching experience includes working
as a Teaching Assistant at Otis and working as a program coordinator for the International
School of Management. Alex possesses exceptional communication skills and a natural
ability to teach.
Andrew
Many of our tutors are artists who happen to be really, really smart. Andrew falls into this category. He has degrees in Music Composition and French from Oberlin College in Ohio and a Grand Diploma in Cuisine and Pastry from Le Cordon Bleu, the famous Parisian cooking school. But that's not to say he's not a capable SAT tutor. Consider his experience. Over the past eight years, he's tutored the SAT, SAT II, English, Math, French and more for The Princeton Review, Launch Education, Oxford Academy, ACI Institute, aDom Lingua (Paris), and Oberlin College. And if you want more proof of his abilities on the SAT, he only missed one question on the sample SAT taken during KlassTutoring training (2390!). Not bad. Andrew is a wonderful communicator and an exceptional tutor.
Antony
Antony graduated from Brigham Young University-Idaho
with a B.S. in Business Management, a minor in Information Systems, and 3.95 GPA.
He was on the Dean’s Honor list for 3 consecutive years through graduation.
He graduated with a 4.0 from Liberty High School in Missouri, where he was an AP
Scholar and scored above the 95th percentile on the Math, Science and English sections of the ACT. Antony
also has considerable teaching and tutoring experience. He is a certified tutor
for the College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA). He tutored college economics,
Russian, and programming between 2001 and 2005. While at BYU, he graded homework
and assisted students in six college business and accounting classes. Both his education
and tutoring background show Antony to be a skilled, experienced, and well-rounded
tutor. He is exceptional.
Audrey
Audrey graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.A. with Honors
in Political Economy of Industrial Societies. While at Berkeley, Audrey acquired
extensive tutoring experience. She worked as a writing tutor, assisting residential
hall members in various college writing subjects. She also supervised a one-on-one
tutoring program at Academic Centers Tutoring in Berkeley. As a Humanities major,
she developed strong reading and writing abilities, but she also exhibited strong
math skills by taking AP calculus at the high school level and economics and statistics
courses at the university level. Audrey missed only one problem on SAT testing during
KlassTutoring training and earned perfect scores on the Critical Reading and Math
portions. Audrey has combined her impressive academic career with strong communication
skills and passion for teaching to become an excellent SAT tutor.
Brittany
Brittany has considerable teaching experience. She has
taught students from Kindergarten through twelfth grade at Coolidge Elementary School,
Prep Academy of Los Angeles, WAYS Charter School in Los Angeles, San Gabriel and
Pasadena Unified School Districts, and Today’s Fresh Start Charter School
in Los Angeles. Brittany also has a strong academic background. She has a B.F.A.
from Otis College of Art and Design where she was awarded institutional grants and
maintained a place on the Dean’s List. She has also earned a Multiple Subject
Teaching Credential from Cal State LA. She is currently a student at Loyola Law
School in Los Angeles. This experienced teacher has thrived in a wide range of educational
contexts.
Gene
Gene brings to KlassTutoring exceptional teaching experience - several years of SAT tutoring for Eureka, One-On-One Review, and privately - and a strong education-background - B.A. in International Studies and B.A. in Japanese Language and Literature from University of California, Irvine. Gene also brings smarts, scoring nearly perfect on the SAT, Chemistry AP, Computer Science AP, and Statistics AP, not to mention a perfect 800 on the Math IIc Subject Test. But most importantly, Gene brings an affability and enthusiasm that allows him to effectively communicate with his students. Without this innate ability to understand students, and be understood, none of the other stuff means a thing. Lucky for us, Gene's the whole package.
Jason
Jason comes to KlassTutoring with an amazing amount of experience. He has been tutoring such varied subjects as SAT, HSPT, ISEE, GRE, all levels of math up to calculus, Physics, robotics, video production and more. He has worked with a number of outstanding organizations across the country, including It's Academic (Palos Verdes, CA), The Learning Ladder (La Canada, CA), Fairfax Collegiate (Reston, VA), and National Center for Children and Families (Bethesda, MD). Having taught SAT classes of up to 30 students and private students in a one-on-one setting, Jason clearly has the kind of tutoring experience you just don't find at other test prep companies. Combine his experience with a solid education (he has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University, where he was a member of the P.T.S. Engineering honors society), and you have an outstanding tutor.
Jon
Jon, a graduate of the Harvard-Westlake school in North
Hollywood, earned a B.A. in Writing and English from the Gallatin School at New
York University and a Master’s Degree in English and Education from Fordham
University. He has particular strength as a writer, writing for the Pasadena Weekly
News, Washington Square News, and the web-based Plum Group in NYC. He also has teaching
experience, working as a high school English teacher in New York (where he taught
AP English, among other courses) and a Teaching Assistant for Upward Bound at New
York University. He has experience tutoring a number of other subjects prior to
joining KlassTutoring, including SAT prep and college writing. Jon also demonstrated
excellence in all math-related testing during KlassTutoring’s training sessions.
Jon is a great tutor, especially for the student looking to master the verbal portions
of the SAT.
Jonathan
Jonathan has extensive SAT and general teaching experience.
He worked for several years at Educational Resources in San Marino, CA, tutoring
all sections of the SAT, and the Math and Literature SAT Subject Tests. He also
has teaching experience in the ACT, HSPT, and ISEE tests. Jonathan also has a diverse
teaching background beyond these standardized tests. For example, he worked as a
guidance counselor for college students at Azusa Pacific University, and he worked
at Focus International Summer Missions, teaching in orphanages and indigenous churches
in the Third World. He holds a B.A. from Azusa Pacific University and a Master’s
of Arts from Claremont School of Theology. Jonathan is an outstanding communicator
and a conscientious and diligent teacher. He is one of KlassTutoring’s best.
Justin
Well-educated. Experienced. Qualified. Math-genius. These are just a few of the words we could use to describe Justin. His relevant education started at Santa Monica High School, where he finished with a 3.9/4.0 GPA, went through Indiana University, where he received a Bachelor of Music and a 4.0 GPA, and led to Cal State University Northridge, where he is currently getting his Masters in Computer Science. He has California Teaching Credentials in Math and Music, and tutoring and teaching experience at Tutoring Club (Santa Monica), Maria Carrillo High School (Santa Rosa, CA), and Mountain Shadows Middle School (Rohnert Park, CA). His list of awards is long: Dean's Award at IU, National Dean's List, Golden Key Honor Society, IU Honor's List, National Merit Finalist, Advanced Placement Scholar with honors, and U.S. Achievement Academy Awards in Mathematics and All-American Scholar. And he's a nice guy and a patient teacher. I guess sometimes you can have it all with an SAT tutor. Justin certainly is the whole package.
Kate
Kate brings considerable experience and expertise to KlassTutoring. Her tutoring goes as far back as high school, where she was on her school's official tutor list because of her high SAT scores (2300 out of 2400). In college, at U.C. Berkeley, she worked with local high school students in a number of subjects, including the ACT, SAT, and SAT Subject Tests. More recently, she tutored standardized tests at Aim High Tutors in Orange County. She is also a Title I Tutor for the O.C. Department of Education, where she teaches English, Science, and all levels of Mathematics. Kate is a natural tutor, and combined with her exceptional experience and uncanny ability to communicate with her students she makes an outstanding tutor.
Lauren
Lauren brings to KlassTutoring a wealth of tutoring
and teaching experience. As an independent tutor, she has taught students in a broad
range of topics, including algebra, economics, world history, health, and the performing
arts. She worked for A.C.E. tutoring (currently Xamaze In-Home Tutoring) in Orange
County, where she tutored algebra, geometry, writing, English, and standardized
test preparation. She also taught World History and Economics at Fullerton Union
High School. She graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a B.A. in History, and she has
a Preliminary Teaching Credential from Chapman University. She scored nearly perfect
in all KlassTutoring training exercises—one of the best performances we’ve
ever seen.
Mikhail (Misha)
Misha is an excellent and well-rounded tutor. At KlassTutoring, we require our tutors to be proficient in both the verbal and math sections of the SAT. With degrees in Communications Studies and Accounting from UCLA, Misha has an ideal background. Graduating Magna Cum Laude, he took writing-heavy classes such as Freedom of Communication and math-heavy classes such as Calculus and Statistics. Besides his exceptional educational background, Misha has excellent experience as a tutor. He worked with MBA students at UCLA on computer-related subjects. He also, more recently, tutored the SAT for Eureka Review in Los Angeles. Misha is a knowledgeable, friendly, and well-rounded tutor.
Mitchell
At KlassTutoring, we only hire tutors
who already have extensive teaching and tutoring experience. This is one aspect
of our tutors that separate us from many of our competitors. Mitchell is an outstanding
example. Before joining KlassTutoring - from 1991 to 2006 - he tutored the LSAT for
Princeton Review and the SAT for several companies, including Kaplan, Sylvan, Lentz
& Lentz, and Princeton Review. He also has college-level Literature and English
teaching experience at Sullivan County Community College in New York and The Adult
School at Bergen County Community College in New Jersey. Mitchell graduated Cum
Laude with high honors in English from Middlebury College in Vermont. He was also
named College Scholar and was on the Dean's List. Besides his obvious experience
and exemplary academic background, Mitchell brings an enthusiasm and energy to tutoring
that helps to motivate his students. He is an outstanding tutor.
Nils
Nils has an impressive and well-rounded educational
background. He studied history, physics, philosophy, sociology, and political science
at Yale College, new Haven , CT. He also took courses in statistics and philosophy
at Evergreen State College in Washington and Cal State University, Long Beach. Nils's
impressive education goes back to his excellent high school resume: he graduated
from Polytechnic High School, Long Beach with honors, near perfect SAT scores, and
perfect 5s on physics, Chemistry, US and Comparative Government, and US History
AP exams. Considering his background, it is not surprising that he got perfect 800s
on all three sections of the SAT given during KlassTutoring training. He has one-on-one
tutoring experience working with students in mathematics. He also has experience
as a Training Supervisor at Borders Books. Nils, young enough to still remember
his own high school experiences, relates well to students. His diverse background
as a student only adds to his strengths.
Whitney
Whitney has a passion for tutoring that is evident in her expansive experience. For several years, she worked as a one-on-one and group tutor in Boston. She worked with high school students at English Language Services, tutoring the SAT, Literature SAT subject test, and the PSAT. She also worked at the Foothills Theatre School, where she created lesson plans and taught a number of subjects, including the works of Shakespeare. Whitney was also a teacher assistant and curriculum developer at Brandeis University, where she taught Web Design and Computer Graphics. She graduated from Brandeis University, summa cum laude with High Honors. And her SAT skills? How about perfect scores on all three sections (800 x 3)! Whitney is one of KlassTutoring's best tutors.
